ABOUT THE PROJECT CLIMATE CHANGE ATLANTIC COMMUNITY

How much have sea levels risen to date?

The IPCC (2007) states that sea levels rose by 2cm in the eighteenth century, by 6cm in the nineteenth and by 19cm in the twentieth. In the 1990s the rate of sea level rise was equivalent to 30cm a century. Today the rate is nearer 40cm a century.

However, has the IPCC has underestimated its future projections?

How much volume do the different components of sea level rise add?    How much water is melting from the icesheets now?    What areas are vulnerable to ocean currents?
