Yesterday we went to the port for the customs officers to inspect our car. Step one was finding the car – Veracruz is a massive port and all we knew was that Beatrice was next to a white container. You can see in the photo the agent Karim can’t see her. But luckily Tim has a keen eye for a corner of orange Land Rover.
When the customs officials arrived we took most of our things out of the car and they gave them a quick look. Then we had to manoeuvre the Landy so she could be scanned by a giant X-ray machine in a big white van. That seemed to be all in order and afterwards we were free to put everything back in.
If the very nice customs people, who we are happy to hear will be following the progress of our expedition through the website, sign the form this morning we will be good to go.
Once we have the car we will head north towards America, picking up Will in Tampico on the way. We will be in the US for three months travelling up the East coast then Canada for a week or two then return to the UK by ship in time for Christmas.
