Brazilian customs officials do not move fast. We have now been waiting for our car since March 9 which seems like a very long time ago.
The news from our freight forwarders at the port rotates on a daily basis - we are told we might be getting the car next week, that sometimes it takes two months to import a car, that the customs officials are happy with our paperwork, that the customs officials have some questions or that Tim needs to sign another form.
Meanwhile, we are hanging out in a hostel in Guaruja, a beach resort near Santos, it was very trendy in the 1970s apparently. We can’t complain too much.
We play occasional games of bat and ball on the beach, swim in the pool, and go to the supermarket but for at least 10 hours in every 24 we are on the internet using the hostel’s wifi to make changes to our website, complete the accounts, update our sponsors and chat to our friends.
We made bets on when we will get the car which, I am sorry to report, it looks like I am going to win hands down. Will said yesterday, Tim says today and I said later. The loot is not great due to budgetary constraints, but I am looking forward to choosing something costing R10 (approximately £4) or less from Carrefour. Suggestions welcomed.
